Here’s the reality. Most of you have contempt for Dominicans as people, whether consciously or subconsciously simply because they demand the same level of respect as humans. Of course you conflate work performance with desperation and exploit a more than likely human being in an irregular status facing deportation threats daily.

You don’t like the way Dominicans work, drive, loud music, etc one would beg the question why would you move to THEIR country? You could move right next door and hire all the Haitians you’d like.

Me personally I would never hire one off principle alone. I have had plenty Dominicans who have done unsatisfactory work and I merely explain to them what I didn’t and did like and depending on their response determined whether I’d hire them again. It’s that simple. But for the life of me I don’t understand foreigners moving to another country to hire other foreigners to do business.

Imagine being a foreigner moving to Germany and hiring Turks for jobs. I think we know how that would eventually end. Don’t think that’s not coming to the Dominican Republic soon
What BS. Opening with " Here's the reality. ". Hog wash and downhill from there. You're not a serious guy are you.? Wide brush you paint with. Try a smaller size and maybe you will get in the corners and trim...

My pet peeve with Dominicans doesn't apply to all Dominicans but it annoys the shit out of me. They block sidewalks, doors, intersections...etc as if there were no other people using the sidewalks, streets, and doors. They can even see you coming and they still block the sidewalk.

There’s no such thing as personal space here. That I agree with. I dislike tall music. To me it is the most disrespectful thing a person can do is having their music played at levels everyone can hear. I’ve concluded that most don’t even like the music they listen to if only they can hear it.

I think Jarabacoa is the only place where this isn’t tolerated.

I don’t like the lack of respect for personal property. When I see a moto bracing themselves or resting on my tailgate at stop lights it infuriates me.

As a “bro” I don’t like the Haitians coming up to me with their hands out like we are “long lost brothers” or that I “owe them something” just for them being Haitian. It happens more than it’ll happen to you all, because they believe upon first glance I might be one of their countrymen. So here I am a dark man of “relative” wealth and privilege with a light Dominican wife and family ignoring their “banter” or “conversation” because I just want to get to a comfortable beach chair without a “guide”. My wife typically has to calm me down but I have small kids in tow and just want to be left alone for a decent day at the beach.

This is of course after some idiot unsolicited in the open parking area decides to jump behind my vehicle instructing me how to reverse park while I have a massive screen on the dash. Then that same guy who isn’t on any books anywhere for employment summons a small propina for his “efforts”.

These are the things that grinds my gears

I’m not reaching at all. Everything is a “better deal” or “better quality” when it’s at a significant discount.

Mexicans are better construction workers than Americans until year 3 of that shoddy construction work starts to show cracks in the foundation. I’ve heard it all and the white noise sounds the same in every country.

Being married to someone of another ethnicity or race doesn’t mean you don’t harbor contempt for that group. I can’t believe in 2025 you actually went there as a way to shield yourself from the reality here. Again you moved to this country to be around a group you don’t particularly like outside of them serving you. Some of you are openly admitting to aiding illegals in their legalization process. I mean what would be the repercussions of doing so in America, or Canada?

If you were in charge of a country, how would you handle foreigners who decide to do this?

I’ve already stated I live here. And I don’t mean to be self righteous about this issue as every one has a choice to live however they like. The point is we are foreigners and our decision to move to another nation is a little more calculated and normally with more resources than the inverse of immigrants migrating to America, Canada, Europe etc. With that comes a certain level of responsibility to the Dominican Republic and its people.

That doesn’t meaning being a pushover or parting with your hard earned money for less than satisfactory service. That also doesn’t mean hiring illegals. There’s a balance
Other than posting on DR1, do you know me? Do you know any of us personally? You are generalizing based on your opinion, nothing more. Helping someone in their legalization process, what is the issue with this? It is done every day in the USA (can't speak for Canada), assisting someone in getting a visa, green card, etc... First you criticize for "employing illegals" (your posts) now helping someone with their legalization process. Sounds pretty self-righteous to me. Handle foreigners that do what? Hire "illegals" (you seem to assume many do) or help with their legalization process? Even though I have been living in the DR for over 35 years, I would not even pretend to know what the solutions are. I am smart enough to know that the problem is a bit more complicated. As I posted before, all this you are posting is your opinion, nothing more. You remind of another poster (banned), he liked Bourbon.

As Keepcoming says, that is not the "reality", it is your opinion. I think you are wrong that "most of us" have contempt for Dominicans. Most people on this site either live here or spend a lot of time here, and I doubt we would spend as much time as we do here if we did not respect the people as "humans". I for one have been living here for fifteen years and I can assure you that if I thought of Dominicans in the way you describe I would not still be here.

My Dominican friends (of which I have many) often give me sh*t for treating everyone with the equal amount of respect.
Doesn't matter who it is or what they do for a living top to bottom. The one thing the people who know me around here
will agree on , it's the fact that I never disrespect anyone no matter how much they beg for it somedays.

This gives me the peace of mind knowing that heaven forbid I ever have to put my hands on someone or worse,
I will get the benefit of the doubt 100% of the time. There's been more than one occasion where someone has tried to push
my buttons only have one of my Dominican friends or neighbors intervene and diffuse the situation without me having
to say a word. Living here is breeze if you understand how to read the room.

Way off-topic, I know.
But hey... it's Mother's Day and I'm enjoying my afternoon with a few of them so I figured "what the heck", lol CHEERS!
