Further to this - what about personal accountability? These holiday makers who come - eat as much as they can, drink horrendous amounts, get way too much sun - THEN amazingly get sick. Well Duh......... then they blame everyone

I think that is a major problem today...people have forgotten the concept of being accountable for themselves as its always too easy to pass the buck or point fingers.

I have said for years the above....many people over-indulge in every respect on vacation (in every calibre of hotel) and then are surprised when they are unwell. Why eat and drink more than you would at home??? Because you've paid for it??? Puhleeeez!

I think a point that has been overlooked is personal hygiene. While the hotels have a responsibility to maintain a clean environment where food is prepared/served, how many patrons forget their side of the deal and conveniently forget to wash their hands prior to eating or drinking.....YUCK! I have seen people leave hotel lobby washrooms and overlook the fact that soap and water is at their disposal!!!!:ermm:

Off topic a bit -

2 occasions where I was shocked but not surprised by tourists in D.R. hotels.

Once I was in a hotel lobby in Cabarete and I overheard a conversation between the rep and a couple of holidaymakers.
They wanted and upgrade because the closet doors would not close nicely. (An upgrade - not just a new room). The rep said that he had already given them an upgrade because the previous day they had complained about one of the 2 lights not working in their bathroom.
They were not happy that he only offered to change their room. They said that they had spent half the previous day complaining and they did not want to spend half of today complaining. I really wanted to suggest that perhaps they should follow their own advice.
An ugly coupe with an ugly attitude.

In the same week I was witness to a tourist who banged her toe whilst entering the wave pool. She complained that the water level kept changing and this has caused her to stub her toe. No sh!t Einstein - it is a wave pool!
She wanted an upgrade or she would sue. Why an upgrade? So she could convalesce in a "Junior suite" rather than a "Standard King"?
Imagine the hilarity that ensued - they wanted something for nothing with a free lunch. Well the lunch is already free (if a little toxic).
Bloody time wasters!!!
