27,313 passengers X 30 + 3 ships X 20,000= $879.390 in government revenue (at least) for just that one day.

That explains why the government likes cruise ports.
That's a hell of a big boat. A more realistic number would be 2700 passengers per boat. 2700x30 =81,000. X that by 3 boats = 243,000
Sorry windy but I do not understand your math.

I still don't get the math. There is no way that any 2 DR cruise terminal can handle 27,000 plus passengers in one day. That would be 5 medium to large ships at each terminal. It physically can't happen.

The article says 5 boats docked that day, divided between the two ports I'd think it could work, and often these ships anchor and they shuttle folks in..

I'd love to see the REAL accounting on this nonsense. Cruise people are a very cheap demographic and I'd bet big, big odds the cruise ships cost us more money than worth the bother.

We have to throw tons of resources to have that ship and all those rednecks running around causing mass confusion.

The news article pegged the number of passengers, so I used that number. Another poster said the fee per passenger was $30 to $40 US so I used $30
There was also a range of docking charges of which I used the smallest. $20,000, to come up with what should be a low ball number for that single, and only that single day, which was a record. Sure, the typical day will be a lot less but still major revenue. Far more revenue than expats or sex tourists in Sosua provide to the government, which was my real point as to why there is a focus on cruise ships. It is all about the vast amounts of revenue.

It was actually 5 ships, so add about 40K more USD to the total at both POP Ports.

Puerto Plata reached a new record in cruise arrivals for one day this December. On Tuesday, 19 December, five ships docked on the same day bringing 27,313 visitors to the north coast province’s two ports – Taino Bay and Amber Cove.

Funny. Today there was a bunch of cruise ship tourists walking from San Souci down Av. España to the Colonial Zone. My dogs stopped to say hi to a few. They asked me if something bad was happening because all the police were in the street. I told them they always have extra police around to make sure all are safe.

Your dogs asked you if something bad was happening?
