i've been searching the internet for cheap tickets and am having pretty good luck. but i have a couple of questions. are there any sites anyone recomends for cheap airline tickets? does anyone know about the site bestfares.com? i got quoted $441.00 round trip but if your a member of the site it would only cost $298.oo round trip, but it cost 59.90 to become a member. obviously worth becoming a member but just wondering the creditbility of the company. also, would a travel agent be any cheaper than looking online?

You Did Not Say From Where You Ae Coming And

I would pay exactly $0.01 to join a cheap fares site.

Check prices on Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity and the web site of an actual airline for the day and time so you know what the fare is, since $298 or $441 may be good or bad. You may also try a bid on Priceline if your plans are definite and you will commit since you can offer say 1/2 of the $441 and see if they will sell it. YOu may get terrible connections though, since the worst routes ore the ones easiest to discount.

To pay $59.50 to be locked into one site may be risky.

I had a friend buy through Orbitz and wnated to change the ticket and AA told him tough luck and the only option was to cancel it and pay the US $100 fee to reissue it otherwise. They suggested if he wants flexibility buy from AA directly. Since they don't really want to sell on an undercut basis and at the sime time offer the same level of service to customers they sell to directly.

look out for prices quoted without the taxes!

Usairways has some pretty decent trips/prices if you are looking to fly anytime after Sept 3 and before Nov.

Just remember when looking through some of the site, you will receive two different price quotes, one with tax and one without. I know that expedia gives you the price including taxes, while other will quote you a price and then include the tax.

Cheap Air Fare Sites

We've been members of bestfare for a couple of years now and
they are pretty reputable. We've had some good luck in the past with them. Also used Priceline with good results. We travel alot to Cancun, and Vegas and the DR. We got a good fair to SDQ for the first week in Dec. using them. Check with AAA, and it was about $750, US air on line was $650, and thru bestfare we are paying $511. Also checked with priceling and they wanted $504. Just was too scared to book it, I hate not knowing what airline and how many stops before we reach our destination. We did
use priceline this past June and had good results, with only one connection. they booked us on US Air. I am glad to see that US Air will be flying to Punta Cana. This will help us out alot since we do have a time share there.

You might want to check out www.vacationexpress.com.
They're a packeage tour co but they also have are fare only packages.
They have gateways from the eastern US (of Mississippi) and only post fares based on 7-day travel. Maybe an email to their customer service can get you a quote for roundtrip over a 1 month stay.
I just checked on their site for a R/T 7-day air only from Cinncinnati to Punta Cana in Oct- was $379. Don't know if that's a good deal or not.
Just being helpful

Thanks for the tip

Mariana, Thanks for the tip to vactionexpress. Cinncinati is almost in our back yard. I checked it out and with taxes the fare was still cheaper. Too bad we already bought our tickets. I like that the charter flys directly in to Punta Cana. I'll be checking it out before our next purchase which will probably be in the spring.
