Take a jar of 100 jelly beans and put one black one in and pick one every day and put it back. In about 70 days you will get the black one for "death".....................
That is not how it works!!

Here is a far better analogy if 1% of the world were to die from a black jelly bean (or whatever it represents):

Everyone in the world is given a jar with 100 jelly beans and there is one black jelly bean in their jars.
They pick one and only one jelly bean from the jar, if it is a black one, they die. They pick one of the other 99 beans they do not die.
Every single bean regardless of color exposes each person to a sufficient dose of CV19 that if they were susceptible they would die.
Yet only the black bean pickers succumb.
They do not pick any more beans ever after that first one.

(They do not continue to pick every day until they get the black one as you suggested!).

Back in my home country,

300,000 confirmed cases per day and dropping with a death rate about 2,500 per day

2,500/300,000 = 0.8% confirmed case death rate at the moment in a country with about 60% fully vaccinated (whatever that means these days).

Note the conversation regarding how to treat an "endemic":

Omicron Downswing

The average number of new COVID-19 cases in the US has fallen to around 300,000 per day, down more than 60% since the peak of omicron infections in mid-January. The total remains higher than that seen last January, though hospitalizations have dropped to around 110,000 total COVID-19 patients, down roughly about 15% compared to January 2021.

Deaths, which lag both case and hospitalization rates, appear to have plateaued at just under 2,500 per day (see data). While less than the daily death rate seen in January 2021, the omicron wave has contributed to a total US death toll from the disease that surpassed more than 900,000 victims over the weekend. More than 75% of deaths have come in those aged 65 years and above.

As the presence of the omicron variant subsides, many officials are considering how to treat COVID-19 as endemic—here's what that means and why endemic diseases may still represent a significant public health threat.

Would they still be alive if not for being negatively affected by Covid is a much better question.
CV19 finished off an old friend of mine. He played guitar in the second band I ever played in back in high school.
He was into Black Sabbath back then.

He went on to be a touring musician. He had advanced Muscular Dystrophy which had him less than mobile for
more than 10 years. Last week, CV19 finished him off despite being vaccinated.

So, he died of COVID....

My niece has MD and the doctor advised her not to get the shot because it provokes unwanted auto immune responses which her body can not handle with the MD

My friends doctor missed that memo, but his heart could not handle any type of infection so even a milder CV19 infection finished him off.
He is only the second person I know of personally and have met that died from CV19. Both had interactions with their other severe ailments.

I was in a crowded gua-gua today. I was happy that all passengers were masked and probably most were vaccinated. I'm also content to wear a mask in an enclosed building like a bank or supermarket, until professionals who know a great deal more than me tell me it's time to stop. I would rather take their word than the amateur scientists here.

ONLY the second person. So they were alive and well until they contracted Covid and are now DEAD. Do you really think they would be dead if Covid never existed in the first place?????????????

CV19 pushed them both over the limit despite being vaccinated. So they probably would still be alive if the virus never escaped from WIV.

Why would you assume people were vaccinated? Only 53.1 percent of Dominicans are fully vaccinated.
If they were fully vaccinated 6 months ago, there are likely as good as non-vaccinated now. Both of those are according to the experts.

Wearing anything but an N95 new mask worn properly is next to useless in protection against Omicron. Also, according to the experts.

I know many people who have had Omicron recently. Far more than had the earlier version of what escaped from WIV. Most were breakthrough infections after being "fully" vaxed, some were asymptomatic, most had symptoms less than a common cold, some were non-vaxed and did fine after a couple of days. The two I know who died were vaxed but had other conditions along with being over 60.

I was sick for almost a week a few weeks ago. No clue if it was omicron or just a cold. Don't know and don't care.

Some people I know are almost maniacal about getting tested. One of my best friends probably tested 20 times until he was finally positive and that was the only way he even knew was self test. I wonder how many more times he will get tested in the future. I think he became test addicted.

I think you're getting a bit carried away with figures today. I said that probably most of the people on the gua-gua were vaccinated. If 53.1 per cent of them were my statement is true.

Do you realize just how nasty and full of bacteria/germs those masks are? I call em face diapers as this is the more accurate term. They are diapers for all the nasty germs they accumulate.

Everyone in that guagua probably hasn't washed their facemasks in DAYS, touching them with their unwashed hands all day, carrying them in their pockets along with their cellphones, which have been proven to actually carry more bacteria than toilet seats. Cross-contamination with cellphones equal double the germs.
Yikes.

So the fact that so many people wear dirty/unsanitary masks in such a closed and tiny space is probably a bigger health risk than wearing no mask at all.

Most of the demographic on that bus is washing their face masks with their underwear and socks... in cold water...

New Jersey will be ending its mask mandates for schools next month.
So the elimination of mandates is catching fire now - Time for Abinader to see what others (even liberal bastions) are doing

Guaguas---Air conditioned ???
Absolutely\-- open the window

I take them...
I boarded one day...almost empty...I took the rear seat , passenger side

At my destination, the van was FULL

I called for my stop, grabbed the roof rail o/s my window and slid out backwards..
They were aghast !!

Paid my fare to a shocked driver and went about my day

Didn't disturb one person in the guagua by exiting
