Lambada,

I did get a good reply! Waiting on the date of employment. Which should be after the holidays. But, being that I work in Las Vegas, I am also realistic. So, I am going to keep looking until that position is secure. Also, the company contacted me directly. If they tell me, I can give out there information. I will do so. Until then I cannot share that info with the group. But, once I am there. I would be more than happy to share this info with everyone. Fair enough? Osanhopps

Lambada,

I wish to apologise! There is information that I can share with you right now. I do not know if you are in the DR at this time or not. But, if you are there are resorts companies that might be hiring right after the holidays. You would have to ask for an interview, they do not take cv/resumes over the internet, everything is done in-person. Here are the companies that I was speaking of. The first is Melia Group, they run the Sol-Melia chain, they have resorts in Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. They just finished a new resort in Punta Cana. The contact email address there is paradisus.palma.real@solmelia.com. I only have the 800 number for them (888) 774-0040. Also, you have the Viva-Wyndham resorts in La Romana which has four other resorts in DR. Their contact number in DR is #809-686-5658. Good Luck! Osanhopps

Yes, osanhopps, I'm in the DR - been living here 16 years and no intention of leaving :) . And during that time I've seen many a new arrival who thought they had a job only to find out when they got here that it had evaporated so I think it is very sensible of you to take nothing for granted until you have actually been working at the job for a month or so.

I'm sure your information will be helpful to many people so on behalf of them thank you for posting it. I'm retired myself, which doesn't mean I'm not working, just that I don't need to be paid for it. Absolutely no need for you to apologise, by the way. Wish you all the best with your move to the DR. :)

The timeshare industry is shrinking dramatically in the US--however I believe it's because of a lack of financing for buyers more than any other reason.

The DR was never big on providing financing for timeshare buyers--as far as I know, lots of timeshare sold there had to be cash deals. Also--because so much that passes for timeshare in the DR is actually just a small part of the operation of the larger chain A-I's and therefore inventory cost is negligible, the DR timeshare industry (such as it is) should continue unabated.

This is not an endorsement of it--just a semi-informed opinion. This winter may see a huge influx of seasoned timeshare salespeople landing on the sparkling shores of the DR. Yikes!

Lambada, Glad to hear from you. And thanks for your input. I hope to see you soon so we can have a few drinks. Like you that is what I would love to do. That is to retire in the DR. So keep and eye open, I just might be standing behind you! LOL

Also to Abe, The migration has already started. People are talking about Mexico. And I am waiting on and answer from Costa Rica. I had and offer in Thailand at ClubAbsolute. But, as you can see, that is too unstable. What hurt the most was Westgate going belly up. Rep's have to bring their own tours in and they are looking for 15% DOWN PLUS A BIG CLOSING COST! So, now we all must use our heads. That's means, IF YOU HAVE A GOOD JOB/POSITION KEEP IT. AND IF YOU CAN GET ONE TAKE IT AND STAY WITH IT! HAPPY HOLIDAYS GENTLEMEN!

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I just wanted you to know that I have been searching through my contacts here. Also, people who have access to exchange books such as RCI & II and there websites. Read through the lines. The resorts are building new ones and this might be a good time to to there and submit your resume to them. I have sent out several to the following companies: angela@elitecvp.com, reservas@oceanhotels.com.do, degomez@do.occidentalhotels.com, infobavaro@amhsamarina.com. These are some of the biggest resort owners in DR with multiple locations. Now, I can not do anymore at this time. So this is up to you. Please tell me how your individual searches are going. Once again I wish to say Happy Holidays and Good Luck.

We both missed it!.......this ad is 2 years old

But yes, you do have to laugh at anyone wanting to take a commission only job selling time shares in any market.

Better yet, you have to laugh harder at the people who actually buy them.

Now if these time share people could re-sell them once a pidgeon has left the nest is where the real story is.
Listen people, I worked cold calling selling timeshare in SD and was earning over 1500 US per mo. converted to Dom. currency. Not too bad for out here ya know? And this was over the phone!!! U gotta have skills kid. I know I will make a killing if I can spk to them in person whether its english, spanish, italian or french. Its all about intonation and direct eye contact without freaking them out. FYI I relocated to La Romana and am hoping there is a call center aside from Viva Wyndham which is a little distance form my crib. O, by the way a factual report accused Dominicus, and other hotels of training personell for 3 months w/o pay just a measely lunch only to tell the person they were not hiring at the moment. So do your homework....Leo

Hello Everyone and Feliz Navidad, First be careful about Wyndham. They hire there own people from other areas and transfer them to places that are needed. If I was still working for them I could have transfered to La Romana. Second, no one should be taking any flat commission rate. It is murder. Try to hold out until they need you. Which will be soon. They will give you a package. Also, if you are not afraid to talk to people. Always, take a front-line position, which I will be doing. You will know exactly what the people are thinking. This will give you and advantage. Also look at my post of 12/04/08, most timeshares are owned by foreign companies, find out who actually runs them. Feliz Anos

:)Look need to know i can call about a time share job in DR ASAP!! help?

You can call about those positions. I think things will not pick up until the season starts. That would be late August, early September. If you are looking for email addresses and telephone numbers, please check past threads. One more thing, most are looking for people already living in the DR. If you are not there yet, it is a little harder. Good Luck!

What kind of money can you expect to make as a TO or closer. I am a F/I manager at a car dealership in Las Vegas and am looking to leave the desert. I am from S Florida and lived on the beach in Key West and Ft Lauderdale. I was suckered into moving to Vegas for the 3rd time for the money, the times are tough now and I am tired of the car business. I have a few friends here that sell at Tahiti villages here in Las Vegas and make a very good living.
Also do you need to speak Spanish?

Look, I understand why you are leaving Vegas. It is the same reason that I am leaving also. Vegas sucks when you live here and there is no money to be made! Now you asked what kind of money to be made in the DR. That you must negotiate with the resort that you are working for! Second, some will not talk to you unless you are in the DR. Speaking Spanish is not important because most of the people you talk to are from Europe and Canada and they speak english. But I wish to tell you it might be a long process. But now the season is just beginning to start down there. They will begin looking for people. So best of luck. It took me two years before I got what I wanted.

Tahiti Village? I thought they went bankrupted! I know a few people jumping ship because they can no longer sell the property!

Don't even think about coming before December or you will starve, and that's the best advise you're going to receive here my friend.
Only one hotel that I know of who is hiring and their offering 5% F/B here on the north coast.
