So you leave a 30% tip, which is US$ 150, or RD$ 8,250? You think that's a reasonable amount to tip?
as I stated. The restaurants that I frequent and a regular customer, absolutely. 25 to 30 percent. As does everyone I know. What pray tell would you tip a gentleman at a fine dining establishment wearing a suit and has an assistant or two., that waits on you hand, and foot, recommends wine etc. Let me guess, 300 pesos questioning all the items on the bill?

I see nothing wrong with tipping for service, but it is an individual choice. You cannot tell someone they are wrong for tipping what they want, where they want. It is their choice.
I agree, however I find it distasteful or rude to stiff or under tip a service employee whose sole mission is to serve you.

Wait a minute. If you have a shit they take it out to your car? Now that deserves a tip, although I'm not sure that I want my shit brought out to my car!:giggle:
They do that for me every time I go to the supermarket. I have to tell them not to. I've had them offer to come home with me to carry it into the house!

I tip for good service. I take care of those who take care of me. 30% for places I am a regular. I always get to choose my table and server. I cannot imagine giving a few pesos to a gentleman (or lady) that serves me dinner and waits on me hand and foot. When staying at hotels I tip the chamber maid 500 pesos a day( at least) more if I have special requests, which I almost always do. More water, towels, soap etc. Early check in, late check out etc. Here is a hot tip for exiting the airport. Pick the older bell hop/ porter at the luggage carousel, they are connected. They will walk you directly out of the airport with your luggage without any delay from the agents and lines. Its worth every bit of 30 bucks (U.S). They will also get you a taxi right to the front door.
For @bob saunders

Here is the post quoted where he states he tips 30%

OK, so to go back to my point, you would sit there and hand over RD$ 8000 as a tip to the server, and you do this regularly? I understand that RD$ 300 is too low if you're spending that type of money, even though there is already 10% which has to be shared among the staff added to the check. But my question is whether you honestly, actually hand over RD$ 8000.

I know quite a lot of high-rolling Dominicans, but I have never once seen anyone leave a tip of that magnitude.

I guess it could depend how many in the dining party. I have seen some large tips especially when there are a few people in the dining party. We went to dinner awhile back with 3 other couples, the server in total was left a $120.00 tip. I see nothing wrong with that. The server worked hard that night and the service was very good.

tipping 25 or 30 percent at a fine restaurant is not "high rolling", it is a handsome tip for professional service. Madame I really am not sure what your point is. Is being generous to service people an issue for you. This is not directed at you so please do not take offense.-I also find that people who stiff or under tip service workers talk down to them and use insulting terms when addressing them. These traits have no place in my world. As someone posted earlier, they tip the garbage collector as well. As do I. Someone who responds to my home, office and business rain or shine and provides me service gets a bonus\tip.

For a special occasion party like a graduation party, office event etc,10 ppl at the table I think that kindmof tip is appropiate.
