Thanks I found a guy in Sosua Abajo. Of course when he told me 3000 pesos I thought OK it's Sunday. But then after we dropped my car off it became 3500 pesos - typical for DR ! Always looking to get one over on the gringo

stop whining. a flatbed in your country would not talk to you for 70 dollars.

A flatbed in my country (Canada) earlier this year cost me 95 bucks taxes in...mastercard. A few weeks later I needed one again and 50 bucks cash off the books....Canadian dollars not greenbacks

Not whining about the cost I was commenting on his not sticking to his quoted price. He knew where we were going when he quoted me $3,000. Dishonesty is what I dislike.

In the US, I have got AAA towing service, and for $119/year I get free tows up to 75 miles and flat tire changing and free dead battery jumps, replacement battery changing service, roadside fuel delivery and it doesn't even need to be my car.

Last time I paid for a tow out of pocket it was a few years ago and was $50 on a hook and chain for about 7 miles.

My mechanic has a flatbed and if he wants the repair work he'll send one of his guys to come and pick it up...or of course the auto club does it included in the membership. Never seen that in the DR ;)

i have no idea in which state or town those charges apply, but 15 years ago you could not get on a flatbed for 125.00.in NYC

I used the guy that parks his flatbed in the police station parking lot in Sosua,2500 pesos. The phone number is on the side of the truck.

Do like me.
I bring a Dominican with me to negotiate prices and keep the cops off.
Dark tinted windows so they cannot see its a pollo blanco driving.
She gets the Dominican price right off the bat nine times out of ten.
I do agree with you about always looking to get one over on a gringo.
Skinning the gringo is exactly what you would do if the shoe was on the other foot.

I can believe that but NY is not a comparison to the real world.
Heck a cabbie medallion there costs 3/4 of a million dollars (down from 1.3 million in 2013)
So I'm guessing a Tow Operators business license with insurances and bonds is close to $50K to $80 K before you even buy a truck.

And a condo in NY goes for how much?

So NY is not comparing Apples to apples (pardon the pun)

As I'm sure you know now - a Grua is what needed.

I paid 3-4000 for Cabrera to Nagua...FWIW

that guy is now 'in my system'.... the life saver one I use... 24 hr / day service
