Dear Sirs,

Could you please help us ? We will be going on an organized tour of the DR for one week next July. The tour will end up in Punta Cana. We will then have to manage by ourselves to go to Las Terrenas (Hotel Bahia Las Ballenas) where we will spend another week. What is the best way to go from Punta Cana to Las Terrenas (Las Ballenas)? Are there buses ? What are the fares ? We would be much grateful if you could provide us with as much information as possible.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Punta Cana - Las Terrenas

Rather unlucky the choice due both are nice locations on this island (among others!).

But to get from Punta Cana to las Terrenas you might want to include a sightseeingtour in the capital Santo Domingo for one day, as you probably have to go there anyway to get to las Terrenas! Remember, you are on the far east of the country and las Terrenas is on the north coast to the east! But because of the Samana bay and no other suiteable roads you will be welcome to do the trip to the capital.

It can be done by bus (Metro or Caribe tours) or by taxi! I think the bus is about RD$ 100.- from Punta Cana to Sto. Dgo., and approx. RD$ 120.- to las Terrenas (Pls just as a estimate!), the taxi would be roughly RD$ 1200.- on both directions each!

Actually Punta Cana and Samana have both Airports, but I do have just no idea, if there is a direct flight offer from any local airline company! But this can be checked on the location!

Have a good stay!

Easy!!

A well paved road leads from Punta Cana to Higuey/Otra Banda-a taxi from Punta might be most convenient.
Public Transport-the ubiquitos 'Gua Guas' travel Highway 104 from Higuey to Miches constantly, then on to Sabana del Mar, then Ferry to Samana, another Gua Gua (leave every few minutes) to Sanchez then a final Gua Gua to Las Terrenas.
This will take most of your day and you'll never regret a minute, it's an amazing journey that will give you a look at a part of the country few visitors will ever see.
The link will take you to a simple map.

Easy??

Traveling with your finger on a map is different then reality, roads from Mitches to Sabana del Mar are in poor condition, and the ferry to Samana does'nt work. From Samana to Las Terrenas, via El Limon road is a adventure on is own. Alternatives are to charter a plane from Punta Cana to El Portillo strip, close to Las Terrenas, flight is a short one, less then 45 minutes.
