Greetings everyone, I'm sure these questions have been asked a million times. But here we go:

*What is the daily bus schedule to Cap Haitien from Santo Domingo? how long does it typically take to get there?
*What are some things to do?
*Places to stay?

I will be traveling solo and will only be there for a day and a half. Any suggestions are welcomed.

It's via Caribe Tours and takes almost a day to get there and a day back. What can you do in a day 1/2. See a lot of poverty. Go to the pool at the expensive hotel.
Better idea is to fly there, charter a plane, look around and come back.

with all due respect to DR! I have never found that the search function here works well. I just typed in Cap Haitien and get 60 pages of unrelated stuff

better to go to google and type in DR1.Cap Haitien

that brings up the threads you are looking for

Thanks everyone for your replies!
My plan is to go to the Cidadelle and hopefully I'll be able to get to see a lot of the country during the bus ride.

Road to Citadelle one way:
- Local bus (taptap) from Cap Haitien to Milot: 45 min, 20 goud (=20 RD pesos)
- Motoconcho from Milot to touristoffice of Citadelle: 30 min, 200 goud
- walking from office to Citadelle: 1 hour, hard, awesome landscape, 200 goud entrance to pay at office.
I recommend the hotel Roi Christophe in Cap Haitien. Its worth the money. And you have a nice pool after the trip to Citadelle :)
If you have the time, go to Labadee: first taptap 30 min, 25 goud. Then boat to the village, 10 min, 10 goud. Its like a paradise.

Pote ou byen.

@Salsafan Thanks! do you have any suggestions regarding stuff to do in the city? regarding food? or any places that have live music? anything you think it's worth checking out that will add to the experience.

I would suggest going there on Weekend. I was there from monday to thursday and didn't find any live music. Very poorly lit streets, watch out for large uncovered sewer holes. Wasn't interested in food, ate in Hotel, so can't recommend any other restaurants. But the markethall was kind of an experience, maybe better to eat before :)
The Lonely Planet guide for DR and Haiti has a very good Haiti-part.
