Trial of MLB star Wander Franco postponed

The trial against Major League Baseball shortstop Wander Franco being heard in a Puerto Plata court was postponed until 2 June 2025. The suspended Tampa Bay shortstop is accused of psychological and sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. In addition to the baseball player, the victim’s mother, Martha Vanessa Chevalier Almonte, is also charged with alleged sexual exploitation and money laundering.

The postponement was due to the absence of most of the witnesses in the case.

Presiding Judge Yakaira Veras issued an order to bring to court the 30 witnesses who failed to appear at the beginning of the trial.

Among the absent witnesses are medical and psychological professionals who examined the minor.

In addition to the baseball player, the victim’s mother, Martha Vanessa Chevalier Almonte, is also charged with alleged sexual exploitation and money laundering.

Not sure about that. This is a very high profile case. Normally, I would agree with you but because of who he is and how much attention this case is getting, I really don´t think that money will set him free.

However, if they drag it out for a year or more, people will tire of it and then like you say, money talks.

Does anyone think that he is alone as a Dominican going with an under age girl here? If they went after every lead they would need a new jail. In this case his money and fame cost him dearly. And it will keep costing him. True eventually money will do him good. But it will be too late...........

I do not see a lot of remorse coming from him, or should I say I do not get the feeling he feels bad about any of this. I can't imagine how he thought none of this would ever come to light. Nothing is ever a secret for too long in the DR.
