I've done a few different tours to Saona since 2004. I think the best is that offered by Seavis Tours Saona Crusoe Excursion I've done it 3 times since January! This is the January excursion: Saona VIP tour with Seavis Bayahibe--January, 2010 pictures, photos, and videos, from caribbean on webshots

They run small groups, ahead of the crowds of other people so you're the only ones at the Piscina Natural or Mangrove forest at that time and then you're in the next area when you see the other boats arrive behind you. They stop at an undeveloped beach beyond Mano Juan where the snorkeling is excellent. $80 per person. That's generally the same price as most, but the difference is in the content of the day and the quality of that content.

I highly recommend that tour. They also have a 2 Island tour which I haven't done since 2006 but I hope to catch in August. 2 Island - 2 Oceans Excursion & Tour It stops at Catalinita Island (not to be confused with Catalina Island) and Saona.

If you will be in a hotel all of them has excursions to Saona, if you will go to Bayahibe in the beach there are all the ppl that make the trips to Saona.

Not all tours are created equal! Do some research or ask questions to ensure that you're getting the tour that you want. Some people want an emphasis on snorkeling, some want a party boat, some want small groups and some want to hook up. The meals vary and amount of time at each of the stops as well. We all have different needs, and there are a couple of different tours. Especially if you do just limit yourself to booking the tours at the hotel, walk from rep to rep and see how the offerings vary. If you book the first one or the one that was sold to you by your rep, you are relying on luck to have it be a good match for you.

The island is beautiful and most of the days are fun, but I like the get the best bang for my (eighty) buck(s).

Does anyone know a tour operator or know where I can get a boat in Bayahibe to goto Saona island and the approx cost of this trip?

Yes I know of a very good tour operator in punta cana that makes trips to Bayahibe. They will pick you up on time! Once there you leave on speed boat and visit catalina, catalinita , manojuan and have lunch at playa catuano. A great trip . They get there early and leave late . Also they don't have massive groups, they opt for the smaller groups which I like better. Their trip to bayahibe is $70.00 us

nicholas, do you have details or pictures of this tour that you describe? I'd like to know more about it because I can't imagine hitting all of those islands in one day. As you say, they leave early and return late, but that sounds like a day of speedboating rather than snorkeling or exploring the three islands. Catuano is the first beach you encounter on Saona Island from Bayahibe but if they do Mano Juan which is much further away AND Catalinita AND Catalina, that sounds like a long day on a hard seat.

I'm also interested because we sometimes will consider undertaking something expensive, inconvenient or tiring for the benefits received. Many people would like to do both Saona Island and Catalina Island in the same tour but any tour operators that I've spoken to about that say that it's too far to travel for a day tour. If you know of a company doing it, I'd like to look into them.

Thanks!

I beleive the tour I was talking about was just to isla saona, yes ur correct this was a speed boat tour. This particular tour didn't include catalina I mis stated that in my other post. We did cover the other beaches i mentioned and on the speed boat we made pertty good time, it twin 200 HP( Mercury engines) We actually had a very enjoyable ride between stops ( Nice Secenery) and we spent a good amout of time on each island. Each stop we were able to snorkle so that was alright. We had lunch on catuano which by the way HAD EXCELLENT BATHROOM FACILITIES,very clean really. There everybody mainly just took a napp after lunch. Nice lunch. Although catauno has tiki bars and you can hang out there right on the beach , people party there. All in all i would reccomend isla saona i don't care what others may say, i think it's a nice trip. By the way i think this t/o doea catalina and isla saona on the same trip, i'm not sure but they're on the directory right here in the forum. "SEE MORE TOURISM" check out if u like

Hello Friend!!

You can take out small two person boats that you drive yourself. The organisation named as "Blue Lagoon organization" gives boats on rent. You can ask them if they'd allow you to take a boat out on your own. There's another company in Bayahibe which does the same kind of tours.

But i forget the name of that organization. You can also make a search on the internet for better information.

It will usually costs RD$1700 per person.

With Regards,
Mack Bosh.

was there last month on eco-tour, have recommendation

We had a great tour, with Pro-Excursions, an eco tour, goes to Saona & Catalina, great guides, snorkeling, a lot of info about the area, good food, drinks, and it was the longest one we found-most were from 9-4, this got back close to 6. Would highly recommend them. I think they charge $95 per person, def worth the money.

On HDNet on US cable TV, there is a show called "Get Out!," and they filmed a whole bunch of new shows in the DR. Punta Goleta, Perla Marina (Puerto Plata), Cabarete, and the newest one, Saona Island. I think I liked that one the best out of them all. I thought it was really cool in the show where the snorkeled in a spot where they could handle live starfish. I'm definitely going to do the tour the next time I go to the DR.
