When I posted on the other thread on Saturday night (around midnight) about the upgrade to TD status, some of the weather forums like storm2k.org were already forecasting catastrophic flooding for Haiti.

Here's the bridge at San Cristobal going into the river:

And this was the hospital at Montellano (near Puerto Plata) this morning:
sacandomelao: Hospital en Estado de Emergencia, en Puerto Plata suspenden docencia, afecta comercio y transporte

You probably already know - Metro bus service suspended. (HB, I'll PM you about the parcel).

Thanks everyone. Those were helpful links. Our wind in JD is back up again but not the buckets of rain.

That bridge in San Cristobal. looks like it's going to be out of commission for quite awhile.
BTW: The Montellano hospital in that pic, is actually in a very low lying part of Montellano, and appears to have only 1 or 2 inches of water in the road.

I'm going out to take pix before it gets dark. 'Back in awhile--hopefully with the ability to upload what I've taken.

Scanning through the DR press there are horrendous reports coming in from all round the country. The international media are reporting eight deaths, but it looks like there will be more.

BBC NEWS | Americas | Dominicans die in torrential rain

Just been watching Radar Informativo on TVPlata - they reported 50 missing in Bonao alone.

Our gardener phoned in from Montellano this morning - could be a bit worse than one or two inches.

Excellent pix, tht.
Must be a heck of a good cellphone.
Wouldn't happen to be a Sony Ericsson, would it?

No it's a Nokia N70. I don't like the phone itself but I'm using it on GPRS and 3G so I can keep in touch with the rest of the world when I'm in the real middle of nowhere, and the camera is not too bad.

San Cristobal

Hope you are starting to dry out down there. Its kind of hard to get good info. in S.W. Fl., so thank you. Any updates on flooding in San Cristobal? The bridge was not looking good! Extended family live there. God Bless. Thank you, All.

The rains have eased, at least from the capital eastwards, but the Emergency Operations Centre are warning that the non-stop heavy rains will provoke a water level rise in the next few hours, affecting people who live in low-lying areas, along riverbanks, streams and gullies.
Remembering too that if it's going to be bad here, Haiti is going to be infinitely worse.

Re: Pilenque

Not sure of the spelling, but any word on it? This site is the first place I go for storm info. You guys are better than the news getting word out. I am passing info. onto friends and family here. Stay safe, more prayers for Hispaniola... Des

Palenque - west of the capital, near San Cristobal - rain and winds probably eased off there as well.

This video was taken from the other side of that bridge, according to the person who posted it. I think some of these folks are risking life & limb to get these pics.....................:ermm:

Thank you Lambada and Chiri! I appreciate any info... All we're getting here is "the storm has broken up over the mountains" Big help! We have a big Dominican population, so it all helps.
