Over 200,000 lives were lost in the conflict an Europe saw some of the worst atrocities since WW2.

Maybe Ladybird can give us more info on these families. How long they been here and what was the straw that broke the camel's back that made them want to say goodbye to the Dominican Republic.

Spot on, it was dreadful and these families obviously suffered a lot, but they obviously would like to return to their loved ones left behind, but Im not sure it would be safe now, from the troubles that are developing over there now. The Dominican Republic was a cheap place to live then but not now it has become so expensive not only for them but all of us. However they are becoming nervous about whether they should leave or not. The violence and racism seems to be raising its ugly ahead again over there.

Also because of the expense of living here now many of the young ex pats are leaving now also, at an alarming rate, which is sad to see
