US donates Cessna for drug combatting operations to Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense has a brand new Cessna to fight drug trafficking in the Dominican Republic. Past governments had purchased Brazilian-made Super Tucano aircraft for these operations. The DNCD press release on the donation did not detail the type of Cessna delivered last week by the US government.

The Government of the United States, through its Department of Defense, donated the aircraft valued at more than US$8 million to the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic, “in support of the shared fight against illicit narcotics trafficking by transnational criminal organizations”. The aircraft is donated also to support of the country’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance in cases of disasters.

With a 2,000 mile range and 400+ knot SOG, it's a great asset. Planes only ID targets for surface interdiction.

The Super T's are light attack aircraft.................nothing like the Cessna Grand Caravan pictured in the OP.

The Caravan has at its utility more passenger and/or cargo space. Lots of these in use in Africa and other places as small commuter aircraft for areas without hard surface runways.

I am not sure how they arrived at the 8 million dollar figure, even with pilot training and advance detection equipment allowances you would be hard pressed to get above 4-4.5 million.

They are catching 1000+ lbs. shipments almost on a daily basis these days. The drug lords must be getting upset so much of their product is getting nabbed.

Replaced by the next line at a minimum. There will never be a shortage of those willing to risk that reward.
