Are you saying that the US Embassy in SD prints passports in a few hours?......................
He must have gotten real lucky. Emergency passports are only issued for bona fide emergencies and lost or stolen passports. They are issued for less than a year. They are not the same as a regular passport.

Just be aware that renewing in the DR might and I do say might flag you for living here. That would trigger an automatic yearly or semi-yearly form to fill out and mail to the US. If these forms are not received your SS and Medicare is suspended. I am not saying it will happen, but there are people on this forum that are flagged. I don't know of anyone renewing a passport, but it certainly is a possibility..................
I renewed via Domex a couple years ago and zero problem. The catch is, they ask you if you want to sign up for US Embassy notifications of some sort. Do not select that or SSA will know you're living in the DR.

That was a couple of years ago. Now a much different US. Might well now just put you as living here. Be careful with this................

She cannot renew a passport at the US Embassy the same day or anytime close to it. All US passports are printed in the US at two locations. Johne needed room for stamps on his, not a new one.......................

Can U.S. embassies print passports?

Your local U.S. embassy or consulate will tell you about options to pick up or deliver your passport. Embassies and consulates can issue an emergency passport if you have urgent travel.Mar 10, 2025

Where are US passports printed?

2 passport printing centers. The National Passport Information Center. A network of thousands of public offices across the United States designated to accept passport applications. Headquarters offices in Washington, DC.
Wrong. I not only got it in SD I also got a new one in Atlanta Ga. In a day with an appointment made by my congressman a week before. Also printed there same day. I drove four hours and stayed at a hotel to get that done.
If you prefer to get your information from a third party source like Reddit be my guess. I don't have time in my day to defend what I know is true.
You are delivering information like it is gospel when in fact it is flawed.
Have a good day.

So you admit you did NOT get a new passport in SD, but in Atlanta with the help of Congress and you fault my information.............

I log on to the SSA website at least once a year. Just updated my US address not too long ago. Pretty sure that DOGE confirmed I'm not dead.

You are correct in maintaining a US address by doing that. But if you renew here and do not have a US address you are in fact telling that you live in the DR...........

Yes, and then you'll have to notify SSA every year(or is it two?) that you are still alive. If you forget, you won't receive your SSA payment.

U.S. passports are not printed outside of the United States. They are produced by the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) at its secure facilities in Washington, D.C., and Mississippi. While passport applications from overseas are processed in the U.S. and then sent to the applicant's embassy or consulate, the actual passport printing is done within the U.S

Who is the A hole now?.............................

One more question…….this is a round way about doing it, but if it might prevent me from being flagged….Could I go to Domex, fill out the forms, pay the money, then have it sent to my US mailbox which would then send it on to me?

Would that work or is it stupid?

Don't you have to send the old passport with the renewal?

Call them and ask, but I doubt that's possible. You will have to go to Domex and sign for your new passport when it's ready. You do have to send in your old passport with the application. It's returned with the new one.

Might work if they will do it. But I have another way. My friend lives in Sweden with dual citizen, visits Florida often. He left his US passport with his friend and the friend actually filled out the form from the post office and received his new passport as he uses that address for SS. Worked fine. But you would have to send your old passport to someone and then have the new one sent to you here. No way you can get flagged this way..............

Check with Domex, but I had to sign receipt of the passport.
Yes, I think you are right. The last time I renew es at the consúltate in Puerto Plata I had to go there be sign for it.

My husband just told me that he has to be in the US for a week in July. I could fill out all the forms and he send it while in the US,
But then how would I get it back?

I might be digging myself in a hole here. ….

But wait! I will be in the US for month in October! How long does it take to get it processes? Is a month sufficient time that I could send it right away when I arrive in the US and get it back before I have to leave at the end of October????

You'd have to give him your old passport and passport photos and he could send them back via FDX, UPS, or DHL.

It should be able to be done. They do have express services. You'll have to check on that.

Ok. I went to the Gov website and completed all the info as if I were applying right now.

Get this! They have a sale going on and you can renew your passport at new low price! Hahaha!

The fastest service which I would need if my husband we’re to mail it and bring it back to me costs $500! On sale.

I think I will just go to Domex and do it from here.
