A measure that would require all passengers arriving to the United States to have a negative result on a test carried out no later than three days before their departure is the last obstacle to the Dominican tourism industry’s recovery. A viral test (NAAT or antigen test) is required to determine if the person is currently infected with Covid-19 for those entering the US as of 26 January 2021.

Travelers are also urged to contact their airlines to ensure they are in compliance with the new rule before attempting to travel.

Antigen testing for US travel is quicker and easier than the RT-PCR tests needed to enter Canada.

Here is a critical part from the CDC web site on this point:

Here is the really important part: Get tested no more than 3 days before your flight to the US departs. Make sure to be tested with a viral test (NAAT or antigen test) to determine if you are currently infected with COVID-19. Also make sure that you receive your results before your flight departs and have documentation of your results to show the airline.

Thanks! Do you happen to know which labs do NAAT or antigen testing near POP? I reached out to CMC in Cabarete and CMB in Puerto Plata but haven't heard back yet.

CMC has already been doing Antigen tests, which is sufficient for people going to the USA. (but not Canada).
Bournigal should also be able to do that simpler and more rapid antigen test.

Old news
The rule going into effect on Jan. 26 will require all passengers over age 2 to produce a negative Covid-19 test result taken within the previous three days, or to show proof of having recovered from the virus in the previous three months, in order to board a flight to the United States.
new news at least to me
The C.D.C. is also asking travelers to other countries to get tested one to three days before their departure flight, and to be tested three to five days after they return to the United States. It also asks people to stay home for seven days, even with a negative result. People who don’t want to be tested are asked to stay home for 10 days (14 with known exposure).

That language has been part of the CDC's guidance for a while. I anticipate the "people who don't want to be tested" language will be revised within the next few days to reflect the new mandatory quarantine restrictions introduced in yesterday's executive order.

Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo (January 20, 2021)

Location: Dominican Republic

The following health information has been updated on the Embassy Santo Domingo COVID-19 website:

  • The U.S. Embassy has prepared a list of private testing providers in the Dominican Republic. Local service providers can administer a COVID-19 test, with results typically available within 72 hours. Please note the test must be a viral test (PCR or antigen) and NOT an antibody test. The Embassy cannot administer or pay for tests. The Department of State assumes no responsibility or liability for the professional ability, reputation, or quality of services provided by the entities on this list.
  • Some resorts and hotels may offer testing onsite as well as some clinics or labs on this list may offer "home visits" at an additional cost. Please contact your hotel or the laboratory directly for details.

Testing is a requirement as of January 26, announced some time ago, to enter the USA via an airline. Simpler Antigen tests are sufficient.

What happens in each state regarding quarantines, curfews, testing, vaccinations and other restrictions inside that state is up to each state.

President Biden signed an executive order yesterday mandating a 10 day nationwide quarantine for anyone entering the US in addition to the COVID mandatory test results.

I very much doubt that is legal, but this is the DR.
