Samana, the lush tropical northeastern beach destination, now has a direct air link with the United States via Charlotte, North Carolina. American Airlines inaugurated the route on Saturday, 5 June 2021. The flights will operate twice on Wednesdays and Saturdays between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and El Catey International Airport (AZS) in Samaná.

The flights depart CLT on Wednesdays at 9:25am and arrive to Samana at 12:58pm. Departure from Samana is at 1:40pm with a 5:19pm arrival in Charlotte. An Embraer 175 with capacity for 88 people is used for the flight.

Charlotte Douglas International is the only hub where American Airlines has grown capacity in 2021. “CLT domestic seat capacity for summer 2021 will grow 1% versus summer 2019, the only hub in the AA network with (year over year) domestic growth,” said AA airline spokesman Andrew Trull, as reported in...

My guess would be because it's a hub. I can't go direct anymore on AA from Miami to St. Louis. Last August I had to go thru Charlotte.
Interesting. I'm glad my marathon flying days are over.

Good news for the folks who live out there I guess ? But not daily flights so you have to schedule your trip accordingly

Samana doesn't justify too many flights..... small market, less hotel beds.

The Cdn flights were the the same - Wed & Sat (WestJet)
Air Canada too

JetBlue too---- Wed & Sat... when they flew
They switched to PUJ - for more $ per seat

Used to use the Cdn & Jet Blue flights all the time

AZS = Newest airport in the country.... and least used

Lots of Sto Dom passengers from Canada ) no SDQ flts)

Cdn's cannot fly direct these days... great option for them

My wife's last trip called for an overnite in EWR to catch the AM flight
Stinks !!
