You should definitely look into "Los Mina"!
Very good rentals right now.

I have heard the rental market in Capotillo is soft and now is the right time to get in.

i went to villa mella on my recent trip to SD. you could not pay me enough to go and live there. it's not even about the safety but the dirt and the noise in unbelievable...
One has to know/learn his gameThere is only one reason to want to move to Villa Mella...this barrio is the home of the sweetest looking morenitas in the whole Santo Domingo area.
Gazcue obviously doesn't compare to Villa Mella but I wouldn't call it a neighborhood for wealthy people. I would never live in Villa Mella but neither in Gazcue.
Gazcue is not populated with wealthy people or a lot of foreigners.. We do get tourists.. But it is a middle class. working class.. even.. place.. compared with Naco or Piantini. There are lots of furnished places for rent to foreigners. It is considered sorta Swamp Bohemian by the altos in who live in the really uptown places.
I call Villa Mella an Ultra-Barrio. In January 2005 my friend?s girlfriend apartment was burglarized while he was visiting from the US. She lived in Villa Mella. They stole his US passport, sneakers, laptop computer, electronics and gifts he purchased for her from the States. There were no pry marks on the lock or the door?s entrance. Up to this day, I think his girlfriend set up the burglary while they were out of the apartment. I remember we went to the police station in Villa Mella and there were people hanging in the police station and in a park near by and they all looked dirty, hungry and desperate. The funny thing was there were always a lot of people outside just hanging around in Villa Mella.
To the OP the upside moving to Villa Mella opposed to Gazcue is the rent in Villa Mella is much cheaper. You have been in DR for a while now ,so you should know how to handle yourself in barrios like Villa Mella.
If the OP was so experienced in DR, he would not ask about differences between Gazcue and Villa Mella.
