Greetings DR1, planning a trip to the DR for my 26th birthday/mini vacation. Long time lurker on the forums. Also, this will be my first time out of the US. Traveling May 29 - June 2. Here I ask fellow DR1 members keys to making my trip a success. I'm staying at the Be Live Hamaca. Also have cheap reservation at Hotel Mango also bc I hear Be Live doesn't allow chicas. However, I see someone say on forums that they have snuck chicas in. I know guys, I could've picked a better place in DR to visit but my friend works for Delta, gave me his discount supposely. I paid $450 for flight plus hotel. :nervous: My plans are to stop by the infamous Boat House. Meet Frank. Meet chicas. Maybe a day trip to Santo Domingo? Am I on the right track here guys? Spanish is not very good however, I'm on part 2 of Pimsleur now. Any other advice guys?

If history is an indicator, you will receive all kinds of negative comments about BC. My firs trip to the DR back when Jesus wore short pants was to BC, loved it For a first timer experience, given the hints in your post, you will love BC enjoy it for what it is, a great time for single guys It’s not a wonderful family destination or couples retreat but if I think I know what you are looking for have fun. There is a decent casino in your hotel, good disco (Last I knew) and the “Strip” at night should keep you happy without much effort I’ll skip the standard “be careful of” as they are the same you will experience in any like place the world over . Do take a trip into Santo Domingo and I would recommend booking a hotel , it is well worth it both in giving you more time and likelihood of meeting a new friend

silverbackgorilla, whatever you do, do NOT play the progressive roulette game in the Hamaca casino. Forewarned is forearmed, the game is fixed.

I would have done SD at night with hotel and BC during the day.

On that note, I recommend SD for the night life. IMO :)

Have fun and use your mind!!!!!!!!!

Try to hook up with a tourist as well. You might get lucky and find someone from your neck of the woods AND you don't have to pay!!!!!

You should find enough to do to keep you happy for a few days in Boca Chica. If you don't make it to Santo Domingo I would not worry about it. There isn't that much to do in Santo Domingo for a newbie not knowing his way around, especially at night. A taxi to and from Santo Domingo would probably run you around $80 minimum. Yes, there is the cheap guagua but surely would not advise this for a newbie.

Now if you hook up with a couple other single male travelers in town than split the taxi cost and just ride to Santo Domingo to walk el conde, have lunch and a few cold ones.

Things have changed in SD and not much like it used to be. He can find the same thing for half the cost in Boca Chica. Jaragua Casino is half the size it used to be. Pure Disco I can't remember the last time I walked past that place and there were people hanging outside. The gentleman clubs on calle Pasteur resemble a ghost town at night.

First time visitor and not having the slightest idea of where he is going to me is just not worth the effort.

The only advice I can give a 26 year old is: "Don't try to think your way out of a great time".

Go. See. Do.

Good luck. Believe your gut.

Yes - the Jaragua closed at the end of April for one year to do renovations. I talked with a couple of people that used to work there. They were all let go and no guarantee of being re-hired when it opens again. Though I am sure that some of the employees will take there liquidation payment, not do much this year, and see if they can get their job back next year...
