Wage talks to start and unions want 40% hike

In about 60 or so days, wage increase talks will begin within the framework of the National Salary Committee. Rafael (Pepe) Abreu, the head of the Dominican National Workers Confederation, and speaking for other labor syndicates, said that labor seeks a 40% wage increase.

Almost simultaneously, Labor Minister Luis Miguel De Camps told reporters that President Luis Abinader would meet with government officials and union representatives to make an important announcement about job creation in the country.

In the Dominican Republic, the laws enable the National Salary Committee to mandate increases of the minimum wage.
