I'm sure you all are getting ads from Temu (too many)
And Dominicans are talking about it like their other favorite cheap Chinese site, Shein.
But there are warnings that it's a rip off.

"Temu is not an online marketplace like Amazon or Walmart. It's a data theft business that sells goods as a means to an end". They're not saying it's a rip off they're saying Temu collects too much data, and bla bla bla it ends up in the hands of *drum-roll* THE EVIL COMMUNIST CHINESE GOVERNMENT! Nobody collects more data than FaceBook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Instagram... and all the data is shared with Uncle Sam.

Do people in the DR use Temu? I see advertisements for it but actually never looked at it.

Essentially its a free gift so they can look around inside your computer, or device..
if your dont have any software to protect your info you will get burned for sure.

..so ,. not a good idea .

I just bought some sneakers from Temu. Exactly as advertised. Good value. I think buying online is a little safer that using an app(?).

Yup.
and you can had at least half a dozen other agencies up there operating under three letter abbreviations
to your laundry list of dirtbags.
I've not yet met anyone who buys from TEMU (other than my mom) but I couldn't count the number of
Dominican women I've heard talk about buying from SHEIN.

Shein is definitely #1 when it comes to cheap Chinese clothes, the barber I used to go to was ordering from Temu all the time, I'd be getting a haircut and other barbers who were not busy would be browsing Temu and showing each other what they liked.

A lot of Dominicanas talk about SHEIN (pronounced "chain" by them anyways). It looks like it's mostly clothes. Temu is more like Amazon - it has everything.

Yep it's clothing... My wife has been ordering from there for years... Discovered it during the pandemic...

They do also sell household stuff, but that's honestly mostly crap... Clothing is obviously not high-end, but she does order from there every now and then and clothing for the kids too...

While the quality is not obviously perhaps the best, I have to say, their store has been always 100 % reliable with deliveries and payments and everything.

I'm usually not a big fan of Chinese shops and prefer Amazon/Ebay where possible, but this has been fine...

Shein has scary good quality (scary from a DR shopowners point of view i guess) for a unbelievable low price. Temu sells mostly cheap crap.

Same here I wanted to check them out...took a little less than 2 weeks to get here...shipping for free...delivery made to my place in Santiago...the tracking was done by a company in Spain...all good so far and yes I might order some more...I just want those Chinese to leave me alone...lol

With high enough demand/volume they could airfreight directly to the DR and distribute via local couriers..but I guess that is not happening yet.

Once or twice a year I fill up a mudanza box in EU with all the purchases I do from there (much easier) and send it to ourselves in the DR. Door to door. Works the best for me now but it requires thinking ahead.
