Re: web hosting or colocation?

Do you want the hardware (servers) to be in the DR, or just the customer service?

I've been wondering about DR colocation facilities. I currently have a half-rack in San Francisco that I want to move offshores for tax purposes, but I am a bit worried about connectivity issues and uptime.

I would not collocate here. If uptime and support is an issue for you, then this is note the place right now. The connectivity is available, but it comes at a high price and is not plug and play. Who is going to pay US$6-7000 monthly for a T1 excluding local loop costs?

I have friends that have tried to put deals together and have become very frustrated and eventually given up.

You can try talking to the people at the Cyber Park, they can offer you rack space but you will be dealing with the telco directly. They cannot offer you a space with connectivity for X US$.

I truly wish someone would do it right here, I have people that would put boxes in tomorrow.

uptime

that's very expensive, wow.
i have my half rack price down to $300 US / month in SF right now, DOD certified facility. hmm, maybe i should leave the boxes in SF and colocate myself in DR?

that's probably the cheapest way to do it, and lots of uptime for me and the boxes!
