This Dominican guy kept calling me Tocayo, and at first I thought it was like saying buddy, so never asked him what it meant, but now I'm curious to know what it actually means??

Thanks in advance

By the way just found this site and was reading some of the post, and decided to join. Love this site and the information.
I especially enjoyed the threads on Bachata music, I diodn't know that alot of Dominican;s didn't like it. That was real interesting.

Just came back form a week vacation in DR, Firts time, and I loved it.

Welcome!

Unless I'm mistaken, tocayo is used when 2 people have the same first name.

Unless you are a woman with large boobs and then the men will say:
"Hola tocaya!"
and you answer "Is your name Yokasta?"
And he answers : "No, Zenón!":p:p

(Senos are breasts in Spanish, and the "-on" suffix means large or big in street Spanish) Zenón is a typical Italian name which sounds like Senón or "big boobs"!! One of the few plays on words in Spanish...

Oh well, its early and the ostrich lovers are not awake yet..

Oh, I see.
I thought it means 'miserly, tight-fisted'.
Many times I have overheard the term when dominicanas or sankies were talking about their gringo victims.

The body language which comes with it, would be a knock on the elbow bone.

Guess, expectations are always high...

Yes you do kate, Your prize is my sincere thanks because you were right.
We both have the same first name.
As far as me being tacano, I doubt it was that, because we stayed in an all inclusive hotel and yet spent like a good $300 on tips. We were totally impressed with there fun personalities and with there humbleness. Not sure if that's a word, LOL.

Thanks, my wife sometimes calls me that...
and I couldn't find it in the dictionary.

She told me it meant someone who pokes his nose into everything. Thus a noun?

m'frog

Metiche is a noun and it is said to somebody that has to mind their own business. Your wife is right.

I do hope you are referring to the explanation of the word and
not her calling me so.
That would mean you're a 'metiche', sticking your nose in our internal affairs... ;)
