After years of reading the debates, descriptions, some history thrown in there and all the opinions on DR1 as to what a Gringo is I've come to the conclusion that a "gringo" is simply someone that isn't a Dominican in the Dominican Republic.

in the mexican american war in mid-1800's mexican army called americans gringos. was phonetic of 'green-goes' turned spanish = gringo
migrated accross oceans.

The U.S. Army didn't adopt "Olive Drab and Khaki Colored" uniforms until 1902. Prior to that the Army wore blue uniforms or a mix of blue tunic/ grey pant as a battle dress Uniform.

gringo... was the butchered reference for the US Army doing punitive raids into Mexico. "The "Green Coat"s (gringos) are coming. I was told this by some of my Mexican friends. If it is not true, it sounds good anyway.
