If your needs are modest, some of the new all-in-one lithium inverts are very useful and priced at about $150. You can pack it in your luggage. Obviously, it would be trouble if the outage goes beyond a day, but it's fine to keep the internet, tablets, and phones going. We've even plugged in the TV during a crisis (futbol), but just as easy to run to the local bar.

I own two of these. 100 watt inverter isn't big, but I mainly use the 12VDC for computer and toys.

They install an electric fan that turns on when generator starts to cool room. Exhaust is piped outside the building.
