Whats Right With Sosua

I posted this a couple of years ago and to me it is still very relavent.

Much is said and written about Sosua. To me it is
one of the best places to live or vacation. Here, in
no particular order are my thoughts. First is
location. Less than an hour after arrival at POP airport
you can be relaxing by the pool at your hotel. The
climate is ideal year round with no severe extremes.
Sosua is relatively compact so most attractions are an
easy walk especially both beaches, Sosua beach and the
Little beach at (Casa Marina are handy to most hotels. I
enjoy the variety of so many great places to dine such
as la Roca I enjoy haggling with the vendors along
the beach and the satisfaction both myself and the vendor have after making a deal. I like trying to cram
myself into Eddy?s Sports Bar with a host of people from
all over the world to watch a Formula 1 race. I enjoy
watching boys of all ages playing baseball on Saturday
morning at the field across from the synagogue. I enjoy
hearing children switch effortlessly from German to
English to Spanish without missing a beat. I enjoy
meeting old friends at the Britannia Pub where I can
enjoy a pinacoloda as only Lindo the head bartender
seems to be able to make while watching the happy,
smiling little children as they leave Collegio Luis Hess
school across the street, then climb onto motoconchos or
into the back of pickup truck to go home. I enjoyed
kibitzing with Innocencio who was the day bartender at La Roca and who
gently corrected my terrible Spanish with a smile. From
my vantage point high up on Camino Llibre I enjoy
watching the sun set behind Mount Isabella or taking a
walk on Sosua Beach at dawn before it gets busy. I
enjoy it when a motoconcho I knew years ago offers me a
free ride and when a taxi driver who gave my elderly
mother tour nine years ago asks how she is doing. I
enjoy talking to Mr. Hess one of the original German
settlers at the gate of his home on the main street about
the great taste of Barcelo Anejo. I enjoy sitting
around the pool at Hotel Tropix, which is owned by
Sylvie Papernak who was born in Sosua, the daughter of
refuges as she tells me about growing up in Sosua. One
beautiful warm winter night several years ago I was sitting
with a friend, Thierry on his restaurant patio at what
was then Nuevo Sol, a hotel his father had built. ?It
is so beautiful here, isn?t it? Makes you wonder why
anyone would want to live anywhere else doesn?t it??
Thierry was so right. I certainly wish I still lived in
Sosua. I miss it very much. I am sure most people who
have lived or visited Sosua over the years have many
fond memories. I would be pleased to hear some others.

I love Sosua too, Richard and I can't wait to go back! I have lots of great memories from the times I have been there, and I too would love to live there. The water, the sunsets, the beaches, the people... even the street vendors, you've gotta love it all.

Great post by the way!!!

Magnetif Field

It is like a magnet. I always seem to return there more than any other places. As a matter of fact, I'll be landing at POP almost exactly ten days from now to the minute.
