First article mentions Toronto and Montreal from Canada. Then only from Madrid in Europe it says. We all knew Madrid would start first and it has been coming as a ferry I think. But then further down after all the US flights and Panama it mentions Switzerland, Portugal and UK. Ok outskirts of Europe maybe and the UK left the EU. These Dominican newspapers and this is considered the most serious one.

Edelweiss according to their website would be coming twice a week (what is more then before Covid..) But... there are talking about 14 days cuarantine for people arriving from risk country's to Switzerland now... If the DR get's on that list I guess Edelweiss will change that plan... :(

Had I been out of the DR and not been able to reenter when CV19 hit the fan, I might have been just slightly upset, being this is my only home.

Like a Brit neighbor I know who lives near me and got stuck in the UK for months unable to return despite being a legal resident in the DR. He even has a job that he can't do until he gets back to the DR.

I have predicted all of that will end soon multiple times. I am glad some are paying attention to that

I too am a legal resident, I too have my only home in the DR and I too got stuck in the US when the crap hit the fan, I too cannot get home at this point.

If there is one thing odd about all these CV19 shenanigans....

it is the treatment of residents..........IMO

Canada is proposing to allow immediate family of legal residents to enter
regardless of status....

I was in Miami and flew in the 18th of March the day before the start of the national emergency. Had it been a day later I guess I would not have been allowed entry. I could have stayed in Miami where I was visiting but by now would have then been illegal as its over three months now. So would have had no choice but to repatriate to Denmark. It would all have been very unfortunate as I here had to take care of things around my business which my partner not could have done on her own.

Starts in a few days ... Monday maybe

So a Cdn resident can have his foreign parents/siblings/children allowed entry to Canada
The US allows spouses of residents to enter.... all the time, not new on the books

I don't know why the Dominican authorities decided to bar legal residents. However, barring tourists was perfectly acceptable under these conditions. They should've considered the ramifications of such a decision a bit more before issuing such an asinine edict. The DR has many foreign residents that have made their one and only home the DR. Many have now been disenfranchised and have been pushed to second tier, not fair. This will be detrimental to future decision made by anyone seeking to adopt a country to retire and no doubt will hurt businesses that depend on this segment of the population. The good news is that apparently we are approaching the end of this lockdown madness or so it seems. I could be wrong on this. YMMV

It was posted earlier about a group of Citizens returning to RD and being examined medically then a 14 day quarantine

What I couldn't quite discern was where that quarantine took place.... a gov't location or sent home?
Anybody shed light on this ??

I think that’s the only thing they can manage. Saying only citizens. I can’t think of another explanation. And obviously apart from that nobody cares.

Get the borders and the airports open already so that people have the option to come and go if they need to. Assuming the airlines cooperate by actually flying here.

The airlines will fly anywhere there is demand and there is always demand for SDQ. It's a matter of the Government opening the borders at this point.

The Minister of Public Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, said that the institution will mitigate a confirmatory resolution and regulation that declares the state of a national epidemic due to the health crisis of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Sánchez Cárdenas, who offered a press conference from the Z 101 station, said that this resolution will also include measures regarding the use of masks to prevent contagion.

Legislators from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) stated that the approval of a new extension of the state of emergency was not necessary since the General Health Law empowered the Minister of Public Health to establish provisions in the event of a national epidemic.

Article 149 of the General Health Law (number 42-01) states that “In the event of an epidemic or declared epidemic, or a disaster or other serious emergency, the Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance may declare as an epidemic the national territory or any part of it and will authorize its local officials and all the institutions of the National Health System to adopt the necessary measures that it indicates, in order to avoid the epidemic, control the spread and achieve its eradication. extraordinary measures that the Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance determines will expire thirty (30) days, counted from the last epidemic case of the disease.”

Bulletin 91 of the Ministry of Public Health indicated 24,645 confirmed cases with 540 new ones; 9,717 active cases; 14,293 recovered and 635 deaths.

He also reminded clinics and hospitals that they must report positive cases, deaths, and recoveries of Covid-19 because it sometimes takes up to months without providing these data to the National Health System.

Santo Domingo.- Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, on Thursday said he will declare “a state of national epidemic” due to the health crisis caused by the spike in coronavirus cases detected in the country.

The official explained that it’ a “confirmatory resolution” which will include additional regulations on the mandatory use of a mask, as well as the physical distance necessary to prevent the spread of the virus throughout the national territory.

In this sense, he asked for the collaboration of the social, political, religious and economic sectors to understand that the pandemic is a reality “all over the country.”

Not looking good for a 1st July with an epidemic declared in the country. I always thought they were going for opening to soon.

The DR also has the highest infection rates in the Carribean, that may be playing a part.

Where are you getting your information? I know for a fact that Puerto Rico has a higher infection rate than the DR. Please check your facts before you write something that is incorrect.

The country will be declared a national epidemic

https://listindiario.com/la-republica/2 … a-nacional

The Minister of Public Health, Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas, said yesterday that the institution will issue a confirmatory and regulatory resolution that declares the state of a national epidemic due to the health crisis of the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Sánchez Cárdenas, who offered a press conference from the Z 101 station, said that this resolution will also include measures regarding the use of masks to prevent contagion.

Lawmakers from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) argued that approval of a new extension of the state of emergency was not necessary, as the General Health Law empowered the Minister of Public Health to establish provisions in the event of a national epidemic.

Health Law

Article 149 of the General Health Law (number 42-01) states that “in the event of an epidemic or declared epidemic, or a disaster or other serious emergency, the Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance may declare as epidemic the national territory or any part of it and will authorize its local officials and all the institutions of the National Health System to adopt the necessary measures that it indicates, in order to avoid the epidemic, control the spread and achieve its eradication.

The extraordinary measures that the Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance determines will expire thirty (30) days, counted from the time the last epidemic case of the disease appeared. ”

They can keep bars, clubs, discos and major events closed using the Health Law and maybe can restrict flights from some countries with serious outbreaks as they did pre emergency powers.

DR does have a problem with hospitals reported as filling up across the country now.

How many tourists are going to want to fly to a country that has declared a "state of national epidemic"? How many airlines? The US State Dept. will mention that in a travel advisory warning.
