I would not be surprised that when they do allow folks to return to the island they impose a 14 day quarantime like many other places are doing. At least in the beginning. That would make a 2 week casual trip pointless.

Currently 7 day lockup for returning citizens

I would never expect my home country, the USA, to pay for anyone's flight home to the US. Why do people feel that a government owes them a flight home if they are stranded in another part of the world as if it is some kind of a "right"? I suppose the same kind of person who starts a "GoFundMe" page to pay for such a flight. If Trump had that happen, I would call that bullsh....

As for those wondering about regular flights starting up, they will just have to wait for the government to decide when that will happen. I have neighbors "stranded" out of the DR until then.
here I personally totally disagree.
thats what each has his/her country for, to assist in exceptional cases, to take care about it's citizens under non foreseable circumstances.
US flights brought into the DR tourist passengers even 1 !!! day before the since days announced/known closure of the borders.
when a country allows his people to go "there", then it also has to offer a plan to go back "home".
never leave a citizen behind, thats what the priority under such situations should be, and for most countries anyways is.
the costs of such ferry flights, doesnt matter how few citizens are brought home per flight,
are a complete unimportant value to any country's yearly/monthly/daily stupid unimportant stuff expensions.
if you say that ferry flights should not be run by the different countries on their tax payers expense,
then you can say that at the moment you leave your home country(doesnt matter where you are from),
from that monet you are always on your onw and have no rights to anything by your home country.

Mike,
My daughter's novio (UK citizen) has contacted his Embassy....
they are of NO help.... amny Brits are complaining about this - all over the world
India & Pakistan are getting UK ferry flights - that's it

As Windy says... few gov'ts are willing to help
then you have to post such complain on UK govenment and press sites,
as it is zero anything Dominican.
when other countries leave their people behind, it is solely those countries problem.

Over the weekend there were flights to the DR from other Caribbean and Central American countries, and from France to SDQ. I know of someone who was on board and it was reported in the DR media. The flights were coordinated by the Foreign Ministry.

1. Incoming flights need to open.
2. Returning flights need to open.
3. Requirements each way needs to be clear
4. Different Countries may have different requirements.
5. Social and health interaction standards may change by law, both ends.
6. Given how people react, how many are expected to comply and the cost to try to enforce vs let the virus spread.
7. Tourist and "others" don't have a very good track record of being nothing other then selfish. It's all about "ME!".

My read of the speech was that the borders would be closed during the first phase and that each phase would last, at least, 14 days. Would have been nice if he had of stated at which phase the borders would hopefully be open.
Do not count on any inbound tourism flights for a while. Even if they want the income the won't do it.

Citizens John, yes. Not residents, not Crocks and kite board visas.
People are flying home to where they belong legally according to immigration regulation. I think that includes permanent residents here in the DR but there has been some uncertainty about that in this thread. The equivalent would be green card holders in the US and I know Denmark where I am from permanent residents can cross the border into Denmark. Some countries here in the Caribbean have been encouraging work permit holders to leave so there are some differences obviously from country to country.

recreatinal inbound flights will not happen before the last phase takes place.
tourism at airports and ai resorts is a mass event,
it will be allowed when all other mass events like concerts, baseball games, cine etc etc will also be allowed again

I would love to know at what point they actually pull folks out of their homes and remand them to isolation facilities.
just startig this weekend 4 pax been taken out of Cabeza de Toro/Punta Cana,
tested positive and their one bedroom hut not seen as appropriate to safely do home quarantine.
3 adults and one adolescent.
I dont know what exactly the "appropriate" circumstances are.
