No offense but to compare the DR to Mexico is ludicrous. They are still finding cadavers in Ciudad Juarez everday and last year just this city alone had 3,111 murders.

To add some additional numbers, Ciudad Juarez has a population of 1.3M where Santiago has around a million. The total number of violent deaths in Santiago in 2010 was 302 compared to Ciudad Juarez's total of 3111. It appears from a google searches that the 3111 number of violent deaths is more than the whole number of same number of deaths in all of the DR. Here is a link regarding the Santiago murders:
