Why do almost all Dominican women wear such tight clothing all the time? I am asking because I would really like to know. In the few Dominican cities I have visited 85% of the women are in tight jeans and tight shirts. I was just wondering if it's a cultural thing. It seems odd since it is so hot there.

I was kind of interested in knowing the same thing. My tour guide in SD said that women wear tight jeans and skirts so that a man can estimate their butt size and its proportion to the rest of the body. I am not sure if this is truth. Maybe Dominicans here can explain?

I too love to see those who wear them tight. Now if the "Keyster" is too big then I only hope that they please wear them baggy! :pirate:

Dominican women wear whatever is in vogue, like most women in other parts of the world.

Exactly.
And they are very sexy and sensuous and are happy to show it.
Dominicans in general are very proud about their cleanliness and appearance, and if they have something to flaunt, they do.

I have not seen this though, "in other parts of the world", there are many different styles, like baby doll tops, empire waist clothing, wrap dresses, etc but in the Dr I only see tight jeans and tight shirts.

Bear in mind, that if a woman is not in great shape, she may want to wear baggy clothing to hide it.
As Dominican women are quite shapely, they don't have to hide thier figures with baggy clothing.

I think that you mean is that Dominican women wear tight clothing without even thinking if their "chichos" aka love handles showing. Well in DR this is true. But in the states, Dominican women are more subconscious about their weight but in DR they are not, and will wear really tight stuff ,

The humidity is unreal. Tight clothes don't breathe. Dominicans don't seem to sweat/perspire as much as we do.

I have always wondered how they can go about wearing suits outdoors in a grilling sun!

This is what confuses me the most. Why is there such an aversion to shorts? Many threads in the past have mentioned that a man should only wear long pants.

Bermuda has a lower average temperature than the DR and they came up with "Bermuda Shorts". Of course they appear to be a more developed nation.

I got used to long pants. Now wear the shorts only when I go for a long weekend to the resort.

But wearing the suit under the hot sun... no way. (Maybe a few years more, and I will get used to it, too). Going from aircon'ed house to aircon'ed car to aircon'ed office may work. But when you go for a lunch and walk outside, leave the suit in the office.

Brrh...

I live here everyday, all year round, and I somehow got used to the heat and I don't get that hot as before. But I still perspire more than average Dominican. And, I still prefer not to be venturing outside of airconditioned places between 1 and 3pm.

LOL. This is a matter of taste. It has nothing to do with being a "developed" or "developing" nation.
As a whole, Dominican men and women do have a preference for long pants. (After all, they do protect you more from the sun.)

Regardless of the place we might live in, there are times when one must wear what the social situation calls for.

In England, people don't dress up with the almost daily rain in mind.

If you are slim, tight fitting pants make you look slimmer :) . I'm a 64 year old gringa and I buy my clothes here which means tight fitting pants. I look a lot better than overweight women in sacking (read baggy pants). Of course there is a point where the rule of inverse proportionality begins to take effect........... ;). What I don't wear are tight fitting tops because, well, you know, after a certain age things head south a bit. So you emphasise your assets and people don't notice the southwards veer.
