why do Dominican men wear the same white shirt at functions or going out at night?

When the opening ceremony of the opening of the Fisherman's Village project ended yesterday afternoon, I noticed the vast majority wore a white open -collar shirt with slacks.

Why do they copy each other?

And don't forget the wife beater underneath????

I bought one of those shirts, in blue, for Mr AE for Christmas, ordered it online because they aren’t sold in NJ. When he opened it, the first thing he said was “Thank God you didn’t buy white!” 😂

They all wear guayaberas. It's what's considered a dress-up shirt. I love them. I agree that they could change it up with some colors, though.
I have noticed some now fancy stitching. Louis wears them often.

Oh dude, you don't know what you're missing. A few of the local place put out some really nice ones but I've seen a few at political functions that are custom made that would blow your socks off.
Definitely a status symbol.

Thanks for asking this question @2020 - I asked my girlfriend about it as it looked like some kind of DR politician uniform (and got the usual this is the DR, no you know nothing blah blah blah). Now that I actually know the name of the shirt style (thank you @Meemselle) I might buy one. Any idea where I can get one in POP ?

Those shirts always reminded me of the old school barber shirts. The first Dominican function I was at more than half the men wore them.
I asked my wife if we were at the right place cause I thought we stumbled into a barbers convention

There is a place on Churchhill that sells custom shirts. I must say I don't have the nerve to step out in one.

In Santiago there are a number of stores on or near Calle del Sol that sell them. lots on Amazon
There are also a few tailor shops tucked away on some of the back streets which offer custom fitted guayaberas using better quality fabrics at a higher price.
