It's anyone's game but Germany does look strong...
Now that we are down to the semi-finals in many ways I think things unfolded interestingly enough to believe that the four teams that remain are the four that should be there (maybe with an exception of one or two). I have been keeping an eye on the German team since the start of the World Cup. Their first game against Australia was incredible and they really showed their talent- they had speed, skill and coordination. Their next two games I felt their level of play dropped and it was a disappointment knowing that so many of their players were not playing up to their level. However, in the round of 16 against England, they let them know who is boss. That game was pure entertainment and I expected Germany to win. However, I was surprised by their victory against Argentina in the quarter finals not because they won but because Argentina played so poorly. They were so strong throughout the games and to end in such a fashion is really disgraceful for Argentina.
I really find it hard to predict who will be in the finals because I think each team has unique strengths which has enabled them to get to the final four. I also feel that Uruguay has the potential to move to the final round but it will depend on how the Netherlands come out playing in the first half. If they play as badly in the first half as they did against Brazil, Uruguay will be in the finals. After Brazil's team breakdown in the second half, the Netherlands took the game to them. I think Germany can beat Spain but they need to score early and maintain their game from the get go. Even though Spain is the European champion team, their World Cup play has not been as powerful as predicted. Therefore, if Germany starts off strong like they have in the game against Australia and England, I think they will be a strong contender to win the match and the World Cup. However, the game like all sports is so unpredictable and now I am just watching for entertainment as the team I truly wanted to see win, Brazil has been ousted.
Anyway, this World Cup will go down in history for the most upsets of the traditionally strong teams in the first round namely, Italy and France and very bad refereeing.
Realmente es una desgracia.
I am already looking forward to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and hopefully I will even be able to go there. It would be truly a great inspiration and opportunity. FIFA already has the logo out promoting Brazil 2014 and once this one is over the planning begins all over again.
In the spirit of the World Cup may the best team win!
