XOOM with PayPal

Checking if anyone knows or has tips: I would like to send a cash pickup for my self at Caribe Express (or any other pick-up point) with XOOM and by using PayPal balance, not a credit/debit card nor a bank account. I attempted to do this with Xoom but it only shows options for credit/debit cards. When checking the help section, it says that as long as you have PayPal balance in the right currency (USD), which I have, it should shows up as an available payment method.

Or if anyone is aware of any other method you could pay with PayPal balance (yes, I'm aware of being able to withdraw from PayPal to bank account), let me know.

Is this real?

Not sure what was so strange about this? Never mind, just contacted Xoom support about this.

I logged on to Xoom using PayPal account, just checking if it works, but didn't send money.

I thought it just uses whatever money source there is already registered/attached on PayPal...!

When you say it asks for credit/debit, does it want card number and details again...?

Anyway, did you mange what you wanted to do with their support ...?

This was my first ever attempt to use Xoom, so I thought as well that it would automatically take all the funding sources from PayPal and offer those, as it required me to link my PayPal and Xoom. However, not only did it ignore the PayPal balance, it also requested all the card details again, so I left and now just waiting for their support to answer. I was confused as as per their help section, this should work, as even though I set the account up in Europe, the balance is in fact in USD as all incoming funds are in USD.

Waiting for their support to reply and can then report back here. Thanks!

I use Wise to transfer to the DR regularly. Have for years. Mind you, it's to a DR bank account, not Caribe Express or Western Union.

Are you receiving that money in pesos or other currency? When I checked out Wise in the past, they did not support sending in Dominican pesos, and I assumed they also did not send to Dominican banks, but perhaps they do if in USD, Euros, or other currency,

I send dollars to my dollar bank account here, and dollars to my peso account here. The bank makes the exchange from dollars to pesos. And since the DR changed something in banking about a year ago, the money is here almost instantly if you send it during local banking hours. I haven't tried to send close to the 10K limit yet, but otherwise it is painless.

Assuming you are sending from the US, do you have to use any intermediary bank ? I think Uzin and I are in the same boat (sending from the UK) and Wise has to charge for the SWIFT transfer using an intermediary bank. Thats why Wise does not work for us non-US folks

I have a USD account here but only Remitly is able to put money into it. WU refuses to saying some detail is not right.
Planning to send USD for cash pickup via WU and then depositing when I am here because I feel changing too much into pesos hits you due to depreciation of the peso

I'm not American, and no intermediary bank needed after DR changed their process a year or so ago. Still uses SWIFT, but no extra charges or intermediary. It is very straight forward now, and both Santa Cruz and Popular credit my account almost immediately. Minus their fee, of course. I don't think Wise works with Western Union or Caribe Express, but I haven't had the need to try it because it works so well with local accounts.

You are right, in terms of Wise to a DR USD account. I checked now and was shown the below

BTW, I didnt mean to use Wise to send via WU/Caribe Express, just normal bank transfer to WU is what I use.

Good info, as Wise doesn't do DOP exchange I never checked any other transfer option, but they do a USD SWIFT to any bank in any country..., like other banks...

I just double checked with Wise support, can transfer money to a USD bank account in DR, but not a peso account..., I don't have a USD account, but I was hoping the BHD will accept it and then exchange the USD to pesos and put it in my account, but it turns out Wise don't even send it...!!!

If you already have a BHD Peso account, it will be easy to open a USD account. I opened both together and use Remitly to drop some money into them periodically to keep BHD from making them dormant. I think minimum balance for USD account is $500

I have had a peso account for decades in BPD. I was given a large check in dollars a few years back, and when I went to see my manager, she had me sign the check, and told me the funds would be in my account by the time I got back to my office. (Ten minutes)
Got to the office, logged on to my account, and there it was, and available immediately, BTW.

You CAN transfer USD to a peso account. I have done it many times, without issue. The local bank converts USD to pesos and deposits into the peso account.

Of course, they can. I can transfer back and forth between my peso and dollar accounts on line whenever I want to.

Someone would have to try transferring USD to a peso account via Wise and be able to eat the bad exchange rate and transfer fees. For £1000 Wise shows a reasonable 1.26xx USD rate + about £5.25 in fees. The question remains on what exchange would BHD give. Not going to be for another year as I dont need it

The exchange rate is whatever your local bank offers. Plus whatever fee they charge to accept a wire, usually $12-15. But still way cheaper than Xoom and their god-awful rates and fees.
