The manager of the Banco Agrícola, Mr. Sánchez Roa, said that in the first seven months of the year the Bank has disbursed a total of RD$567.6 million. The loans favoured the food production and export sectors.
5,000 tonnes of sorghum
Mr. Manuel Tejada, president of the Federación de Productores y Campesinos Azucanos (FEPROCA INC) claims that 5,000 tonnes of sorghum are about to be lost if the agreement signed with the Minister of Agriculture and the importers of corn is not honored. According to Mr. Tejada, they were to buy the whole sorghum production.
He advised the new Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Virgilio Alvarez Bonilla and the manager of the Banco Agricola, Mr. Adriano Sanchez Roa, to honor the contract signed between the last minister of agriculture, Mr. Luis Toral Cordova, and FEPROCA.
