Dominican jailed for 27 months in Bogota returns home

Germania Castillo, jailed in Bogota for 27 months, after being accused of rebellion and association with guerrilla groups, returned to Santo Domingo on 29 December after being declared innocent by a Colombian court. Although she was allowed to leave, she still has a case pending against her in Ibague, involving the use of false documents, but it is unlikely she will have to return to answer to the charges. She returned in the company of her lawyer, Colombian Reynaldo Villalba and the Dominican Ambassador in Colombia. The daughter of a poor farming family from Galvan, Neyba, in the southwest of the country, she was met at the airport by her parents. She had traveled to Colombia together with four Dominican men, who were also declared innocent of similar accusations earlier in the year.
