José Francisco Peña Gómez has announced that he will travel to Miami, Florida, this week to meet Jacobo Majluta. While there has been no formal announcement, there has been a conspicuous the lack of news coming from the Partido Revolucionario Independiente presidential candidate on his health, there is strong speculation that Lic. Majluta is too ill to run for the presidency himself. Nevertheless, Dr Peña Gómez is seeking a political alliance in order to attract the number of loyal Majluta voters to his Acuerdo de Santo Domingo coalition.
Dr Peña said he would resume campaigning in the D.R. on Monday, 8 January and reiterated that 1996 will be the year of the PRD and its allies. “We have prepared to win the presidency. I personally, have been preparing for it with 34 years of uninterrupted political activity,” he added.
