US$150 million in danger

The representative of the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), Mr. Leonardo Da Silva, said that the bank cannot keep resources idle for a long time, as is happening with the US$150 million loan earmarked for the D.R.’s electricity industry.

Mr. Da Silva added that Board of Directors of the IDB will not permit the disbursement of the monies until the Congress passes the new General Electricity Bill.

Mr. Da Silva was asked by Jose P. Monegro of the Listin Diario if it was true that the US$300 million allocated by the World Bank and the IDB for privatization projects in the Dominican Republic would be used for similar projects in Colombia. He replied that he did not know.
