Dr. Leonel Fernández, the presidential candidate for the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana, described his adversary from the PRD, José Francisco Peña Gómez, as a “political fossil,” who has let his opportunities for becoming President of the Republic slip past him. He said that Dr Peña let go good opportunities in the elections of 1982, 1986 and 1994.
Referring to his other rival, Jacinto Peynado of the PRSC, the presidential candidate of the PLD said, “it is too late to soften the beans,” in referring to the latter’s late start to his campaign and the low rating he is being given in the polls.
In a television interview last week, he said that he is working hard to attract more than 60% of the Dominican voters between 18 and 34 years.
