Peynado gives hints about vice presidential candidate

In a recent press conference held in San Pedro de Macorís, Vice President Jacinto Peynado gave some hints about what he is looking for in his running mate: “The vice presidential candidate will be a person with characteristics that the Dominican people will accept, assimilate and like. I am not seeking a businessman, because I am a businessman. I am not seeking a politician, because I am a politician. I am not seeking an old man, because I am advancing in age, but neither am I seeking a young person because I am not yet old. Nor does it necessarily mean that it should be a woman because my wife is working closely at my side.”

Mr Peynado feels his running mate should be someone who is equal or better than him, and has said he must look for that person with tranquillity.

He said that starting Monday 26 February he would be meeting with President Balaguer to discuss the choice of his running mate for the May election.

Aspirants to the vice presidential nomination for the PRSC, or people that have been mentioned as possible running mates include: Victor Gómez Bergés, Eduardo Estrella, Tony Rivera, Minú Torres de Musa, Licelot Marte de Barrios, Alfredo Mota Ruiz, Rafael Bello Andino, Pedro Bretón, Caonabo Javier Castillo, Carmen Rosa Hernández Balaguer, Frank Jorge Elías, Juan Marichal, José Joaquín Puello and Luís Taveras.
