20,000 exit restrictions to be lifted by Immigration

The Director of Immigration, Vitelio Mejia Ortiz, announced that by next week, 20,000 restrictions on leaving the country affecting both Dominicans and foreigners will be lifted. Mr. Mejia Ortiz said that the measure is a result of a study undertaken with the National Attorney General’s office to determine who has either served a complete jail sentence or whose cases have been resolved by the justice system. He explained that many people who had committed minor offenses some ten or fifteen years ago have been prevented from leaving the country via the D.R.’s international airports.
