Former President honored

Jacobo Majluta’s remains arrived home on Tuesday, 5 March. President Balaguer under decree 92-96 ordered three days of official mourning starting on Monday, 4 March.

Dr Balaguer said that Mr Majluta “was one of the prominent leaders that grew out of the present democratic process of the country which began in 1961.” President Balaguer presided over the funeral ceremony held for Jacobo Majluta at the National Palace.

In addition to the ceremony at the National Palace, he was also posthumously honored at the Casa Nacional del Partido Revolucionario Dominicano, the National Congress, at the Funeraria Blandino and at the Cementerio Cristo Redentor, where he was interred. At all times his coffin was kept closed as his family requested that he be remembered as his jovial self.

The number of people attending his funeral was considered the greatest for any Dominican in recent years.
