Leonel would win in the second round

According to an analysis of the Gallup/Rumbo poll carried out by the weekly magazine, a majority of Dominicans, 50%, believe that José Francisco Peña Gómez will receive the most votes in May, but 54% are convinced that it will be the presidential candidate of the PLD, Leonel Fernández, who will win the election in the second round. The survey shows that Leonel Fernández is the favorite to win in a second round. The survey has also shown that Dr Peña Gómez, as of yet, does not command enough votes to win in the first round. Nevertheless, between the poll taken in November and that of last month, the PRD and Acuerdo de Santo Domingo candidate gained six points.

The survey also showed that 58% of Dominicans feel that if the elections do go to a second round, Dr Peña Gómez will face Leonel Fernández. Only 23% believe it will be a run-off between Peña Gómez and Jacinto Peynado of the PRSC, and only 17% say it will be Jacinto Peynado and Leonel Fernández.

The survey also confirmed that PRSC voters, in the case of their candidate not making it through to the second round, would vote for Leonel Fernández. The survey revealed 70% of those that favor the PRSC would lean towards Leonel.

Another interesting revelation is that of those whose candidate did not make it to the third round, 37% said they would vote for whom they feel is the best candidate, 26% said they would not vote in a second round, and 20% said they would vote for whom their party suggests.

The poll also showed that 51% of voters are now aware that there will be two shifts for voting – one in the morning for women from 6 to 8:30 and another in the afternoon for men, from 1 pm to 3:30 pm.
