PLD chooses Salcedo senator for vice presidential candidate

The Partido de la Liberación Dominicana chose Senator Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, from Salcedo, as Leonel Fernández’s running mate. By coincidence, the two have the same last name. The senator for Salcedo, a north central province, was chosen by an absolute majority of the members of the central committee. Jaime David Fernández Mirabal is one of the young generation of politicians. He is the son of a legendary family of fighters for Dominican democracy during the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, in which his three aunts, Patria, María Teresa and Minerva were assassinated. He is a medical doctor and agronomist, who has preferred a career in politics and has won his province’s senatorial seat on two occasions. He is known as a fair and impartial person, as a conciliator, and one of modern thinking. He has many followers in the Cibao and Santo Domingo.
