The group of investors attempting to field a new baseball team in the Professional Winter League beginning in 1996 has until 6 pm on 15 March to complete all the requirements set forth by the league, or forfeit its right to form the Gigantes del Nordeste. The Nordeste Beisbol Club, based in San Francisco de Macoris, has pledged to pay only US$120,000 of a US$200,000 fee that the league’s board of directors is demanding. According to the Listin Diario, if the San Francisco de Macoris group does not meet the requirements, the right to a new team will be given to investors in Puerto Plata, who are trying to establish the Delfines del Atlántico as the league’s sixth team.
