D.R. to buy dredger for ports

The Dominican government has bought a dredger for the ports of Puerto Plata, Luperon, Sabana de la Mar, San Pedro de Macoris and Barahona. Representatives of the Navy told the news media that the ship is currently in Spain, and it will arrive in Santo Domingo in approximately three weeks. The ship has modern equipment, including radar, a radiotelephone, a VHF Unitra transmitter, a fax machine, and a Scanti receiver, among other features. The dredger, with two Deutz engines, will remove the sludge that currently clogs the D.R.’s ports. It has a capacity of 700 metric tonnes.
