CDE to present plan to illuminate Las Americas highway

The general administrator of the Corporación Dominicana de Electricidad (CDE), Amilcar Romero, has said that he will present a plan to illuminate Las Americas highway, which has been almost completely in the dark for five years. The highway links Santo Domingo to Las Americas International Airport. In the last two years, the highway has been the site of over 30 robberies of Dominicans and foreigners, as well as numerous traffic accidents. Mr. Romero said that the highway is of utmost priority, since it is often the first impression tourists receive of the Dominican Republic. Members of the tourist industry and airport authorities have called on the CDE to furnish the road with street lights, as the highway is considered one of the most dangerous traffic arteries in the country at night.
