Bankers jailed in Miami are wanted here

The office of the Superintendent (Anthony, Superintendency? This is always difficult but Superintendency is not really the word to use in English so I am trying this new formula) of Insurance has lodged a formal complaint, now in the hands of the National Attorney General, Dr. Luis Nelson Pantaleon Gonzalez, against Rafael Castro and Jorge Castro Barredo, who are accused of defrauding more than 40,000 policy holders via their now defunct company, Latinoamericana de Seguros. According to the complaint, those insured in the Plan Hogar Latino lost a total of RD$80 million, and employees of the company were defrauded of approximately RD$5,000,000. An additional RD$132,000 was apparently withheld from creditors and those who had filed claims with the company. If the Attorney General’s investigation finds criminal wrongdoing by the Castros, their extradition to the D.R. from the United States could be requested. The Castros, together with Rafael Castro’s father Orlando Castro Linares, were recently jailed in Miami, accused of bank fraud in Puerto Rico.

The son, father and grandfather left the D.R. in late 1994 after their insurance company was found to be insolvent.
