Stiff warning from attorney general

The Attorney General for the National District, Dr. Zoila Martinez de Medina, issued a stiff warning to anyone contemplating using Holy Week as an opportunity to take advantage of a dormant Santo Domingo to burgle empty shops or homes saying, “I will send them directly to La Victoria (the main jail in the National District).” Dr. Martínez de Medina also warned residents of Santo Domingo, who travel in large numbers to the interior of the country during Holy Week, to securely lock their homes and businesses in order to avoid unpleasant surprises upon returning to the capital. In addition to the emphatic statement by the Attorney General, the National Police have announced a strengthening of its patrols in the capital in order to prevent houses and businesses being subject to the robberies that have sometimes occurred in the practically empty city of Santo Domingo during Holy Week.
