Campaigning resumes its normal pace

The political campaigns resumed in full after the change of pace for Holy Week. Contenders in the presidential race are Jose Francisco Peña Gómez, Leonel Fernández, Vice President Jacinto Peynado, and José Rafael Abinader and Rafael Alburquerque because other minority parties were disqualified by the Junta Central Electoral last week. The presidential candidates had retired from the scene during the long weekend, leaving their supporters to campaign in more subtle ways, such as selling kites, and giving out accident prevention pamphlets with their pictures on the back cover.

Now the political parties are readying for their final offensives as the 16 May election day draws near.
